How to party on Carnival

Carnival is above all a festival of fancy dress. There are no limits to imagination: the brighter the better. Carnival costumes don't have to be "elegant", the important thing is to show your good intentions and to feel comfortable. Please note: for balls and other indoor events, thin costumes are recommended.

For Carnival on the street, however, costumes must be tailored so that you can wear something warm underneath. The real carnival fan is not put off by the weather! Guests who arrive at the last minute will find masks, costumes and make-up in many stores in the city centre. As a last resort, a simple red paper nose is all you need. Best Carnival events are in Cologne, Düsseldorf and Mainz.

Weiberfastnacht - Women's Carnival Day:

Early in the morning, the streets are alive with women in fancy dress on their way to the office, their place of work or to shops,. In the afternoon and evening: masked balls and parties.

Karnevals Sonntag - Carnival Sunday

Best in Düsseldorf. Parade through the city centre from 10:30 p.m.: Groups in fancy dress and original costumes of clubs in the city quarters. In the evening: masked balls and parties

Rosenmontag - Rose Monday

The climax of the Carnival with the large official parade from 10:30 a.m. It is a colourful spectacle throwing sweets, little bouquets of flowers and lots of other gifts. Evening: the celebrations continue in halls, restaurants and pubs

Aschermittwoch - Ash Wednesdayy

The end. Carnival "survivors" soothe their hangover with a traditional fish dinner in one of the many restaurants and pubs.

Dating back over 690 years and still going strong, Düsseldorf’s St. Sebastianus shooting club boasts more than 1,500 members. With the biggest fun fair on the Rhine the club will be celebrating the day of its patron saint, St. Apollinaris. As part of the event, the “Historic Procession”
is a spectacle to behold, as more than 3,000 uniformed shooters, marching bands, teams of horses and carriages wind their way through the streets in what is one of Germany’s largest parades.

The big funfair city on its traditional, picturesque site, on the Oberkassel Rheinwiesen. These meadows, which have an area of 165,000 sqm, will provide space for stallholders from both Germany and abroad, and a wide range of rides, guaranteeing fun for all the family. Like every year, one of the highlights will be the grand fireworks display on the last day of the funfair

Ratinger Musiker, Vereine und die Stadtteile sollen sich hier gleichermaßen präsentieren können. Auf der Marktplatz-Bühne werden Newcomer wie bekannte Showgrößen ein abwechslungsreiches Musikprogramm darbieten, daneben werden auch Straßenkünstler unterwegs sein. Für die kleinen Besucher gibt es auf dem Kirchplatz ein Kinderprogramm. Die örtlichen Gastronomen sorgen wieder für die kulinarische Betreuung der Gäste und die Einzelhändler werden sich mit einem verkaufsoffenen Sonntag am Stadtfest in Ratingen beteiligen.

Der Bauernmarkt zum Erntedankfest in Ratingen zieht viele Besucher in die Ratinger Innenstadt. Den ganzen Tag über bieten Bauern aus der Region sowie Direktvermarkter ihre Waren an. Die Besucher schätzen vor allem die Frische der angebotenen landwirtschaftlichen Produkte. Jagdhornbläser aus Ratingen und Umgebung sorgen für musikalische Unterhaltung. Zusätzlich beteiligen sich die Einzelhändler mit einem verkaufsoffenen Sonntag ab 13 Uhr. Der Bauernmarkt zum Erntedankfest in Ratingen findet immer am letzten Sonntag im September statt.

Christmas Market in Düsseldorf

At the end of each year, Düsseldorf's Christmas Market, one of the most beautiful Christmas markets in Germany, casts a spell on Düsseldorf's city centre and turns it into a unique experience for visitors.

The Christmas magic will be individually staged at seven locations simultaneously. In the city centre, artistically designed theme worlds invite visitors on a trip of exploration.
